Cantillo powers Guardians past Reds, 6-1

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Kyle Manzardo homered and drove in two runs, Joey Cantillo pitched four scoreless innings and the Cleveland Guardians beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-1 Wednesday night to claim the season series from their in-state rivals.
The Guardians, who took two of the three games from the Reds at Progressive Field in May, earned this year鈥檚 鈥淥hio Cup,鈥� which is awarded to the winner of the season鈥檚 series.
Cantillo allowed four hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. He leads the majors with a .189 opponents鈥� average with runners in scoring position and worked out of jams in the first, second, and fourth innings on Wednesday.
The Guardians, who had been shut out in three of the previous four games, loaded the bases with one out in the third, but failed to score. They loaded the bases again with no outs in the fifth and scored four runs despite having only one hit.
Travis Bazzana singled and drove in the first run off Reds starter Brady Singer, who issued a pair of bases-loaded walks to force in two more runs. Caleb Ferguson replaced Singer and allowed Patrick Bailey鈥檚 sacrifice fly to make the score 4-0.
Singer (5-10) allowed four runs -- all unearned -- and six hits. He walked four and struck out three. The Reds committed two errors on Wednesday, including a fielding error by Elly De La Cruz which began the four-run fifth.
Erik Sabrowski (4-2) earned the victory for Cleveland.
Noelvi Marte drove home the Reds鈥� only run with a single off Franco Aleman in the sixth.
Manzardo鈥檚 home run, his 13th of the season and second in as many games, came off Chase Petty leading off the seventh, making the score 5-1. It was his fourth homer against the Reds this season.
CUBS 4, CARDINALS 2
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Alex Bregman drove in the go-ahead run with a 10th-inning double and the Chicago Cubs went on to a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.
Bregman went 9 for 18 as the Cubs took three games in the four-game series, with six doubles, a home run and three RBIs.
Bregman scored the final run on a double by Ian Happ off Luis Gastelum (2-2).
Jacob Webb (4-2) pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief for the win and Aaron Civale finished to get his first save of the season.
Nico Hoerner had three of Chicago鈥檚 11 hits.
Chicago improved to 9-6 in extra-inning games this season while St. Louis fell to 8-5.
Right-handed starter Javier Assad gave up one run on six hits in 4 1/3 innings for the Cubs.
Cardinals starter Andre Pallante went 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits.
A one-out home run by rookie JJ Wetherholt in the seventh off Caleb Thielbar pulled the Cardinals even at 2-2.
Pallante was lifted after giving up a one-out walk to Dansby Swanson. Michael Busch hit a 1-2 changeup to left with two outs off reliever George Soriano, scoring Swanson for a 2-1 lead in the seventh.
The Cubs tied it 1-1 on a throwing error by right fielder Lars Nootbaar. Bregman doubled with one out. Ian Happ hit a fly back to the fence. Bregman tagged and went to third and dashed home when Wetherholt couldn鈥檛 catch Nootbaar鈥檚 high throw to the infield.
Bryan Torres singled home Nootbaar with one out in the second inning, giving St. Louis a 1-0 lead.
RAYS 3, RANGERS 2
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- Cedric Mullins hit a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning, Jonny DeLuca also went deep and seven pitchers combined on a two-hitter for the Tampa Bay Rays in a 3-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Thursday.
Bryan Baker converted his 30th save of the season and 19th in a row with a scoreless ninth. Garrett Cleavinger (3-3) picked up the win as AL East-leading Tampa Bay moved a season-best 20 games over .500 (64-44).
Ben Peoples (0-1) took the loss.
Mullins hit his 13th homer with two outs in the eighth, looping an opposite field fly ball that landed beyond the short wall down the left-field line on the first pitch he saw from Peoples.
Texas threatened in the ninth after Nickey Lopez won two ABS challenges on third-strike calls to draw a leadoff walk. But Victor Mesa Jr. tracked down a line drive into the right-field corner to deny pinch-hitter Evan Carter of extra bases before Baker escaped with a strikeout of Ezequiel Duran to end the game with runners on first and second.
The Rays went in front in the third on a two-out double by Hunter Feduccia followed by a single from Yandy Diaz.
Tampa Bay starter McClanahan allowed the first two batters to reach in the fourth before getting pulled from the game because of back tightness. After Duran took third on a fly ball, pinch-hitter Joc Pederson hit a ground ball up the middle that was fumbled by Taylor Walls, allowing Duran to score.
Wyatt Langford doubled in Alejandro Osuna from first base to put Texas in front in the fifth before DeLuca hit a 415-foot homer to left field in the sixth to tie the game.
TWINS 4, ROYALS 3
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Kody Clemens hit a game-ending grand slam with two outs in the ninth inning as the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 4-3 on Thursday after being no-hit by Noah Cameron until the seventh.
After Cameron threw eight shutout innings in his career-long start, Royals closer Lucas Erceg retired the first two batters, then hit Ryan Jeffers with a 2-0 pitch.
Royce Lewis singled, Josh Bell walked to load the bases and Matt Strahm (3-4) relieved Erceg before Clemens smacked his 0-2 slider into the flower box above right-center field for his second career slam and the sixth walk-off grand slam in Twins history. Brian Dozier had the last one in 2018.
Cameron threw 97 pitches, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out seven batters and stretching his individual streak to 16 consecutive scoreless innings. Jeffers hit a clean single to right-center field to start the seventh and end the bid for Kansas City鈥檚 first no-hitter since Bret Saberhagen in 1991.
Jac Caglianone hit a two-run home run off Twins starter Bailey Ober in the third inning, and the Royals added an unearned run in the fifth. Ober went six innings with four hits and two walks allowed.
Twins closer Yoendrys G贸mez pitched a scoreless ninth for the victory. Minnesota (55-55) improved to 10-2-1 in 13 series since June 12.
Last-place Kansas City (46-64) had won eight of 13 games coming out of the All-Star break.
