It isn’t often when a competitive game is decided on a first-quarter play, but to the dismay of West Virginia fans that is what occurred on Saturday. Late in the first quarter in a scoreless game quarterback Will Grier dove for the end zone on what was first ruled a touchdown. After replay, not only was the touchdown taken off the board, but it was ruled Grier lost control of the ball before it hit the pylon. It was a draining afternoon for West Virginia football fans for a sixth consecutive week, but the Mountaineer defense for the second straight time saved the day to preserve a 28-23 win over Kansas State on Saturday. The WVU offense did manage to tally 28 first half points with quick scoring drives of 1 play, 4 plays and 1 play, but was again inconsistent and failed to protect the football.
