Amy Deem’s life full of passion

Passion has defined Amy Deem’s feelings for track and field at every stop she has made along her route through her life. Deem’s love for the sport started at an early age, her dad ran and she was always racing people as a kid. “It (track and field) was really just something for me to try,” Deem said. “It wasn’t until I got to Hamilton that Coach Mollendick taught me how to jump hurdles and helped me develop my passion for the sport.” Her affection for her craft continued to grow during her time at Parkersburg High School. Nick Swisher humbled by honor

Nick Swisher’s journey to the Parkersburg High School Sports Hall of Fame differed from fellow inductees Susan Gardner and Amy Deem. Big 12 in for a wild ending

A lot of early-season success has many Big 12 men’s basketball teams sitting in pretty positions as we enter the crunch period before conference tournament time. Every squad in the conference has a winning record. Four teams are ranked in the Associated Press Top 10 (WVU, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech), with one more (TCU) also in the Top 25. Sadly, it appears Mother Nature is going to win out this weekend when it comes to the prep sports scene. As of press time Friday, there were still several events fans can take in throughout today, including a still currently scheduled Class A boys basketball showdown featuring Notre Dame at Ravenswood tonight. Although all of the basketball games at Parkersburg South’s Rod Oldham Athletic Center are off today, the annual Parkersburg Penguin swimming invitational is still set to take place.
