I read about the Washington County Commissioners' support for creating a school-based health clinic at Fort Frye Local Schools. I believe this initiative is an important investment in the health and well-being of our children and families in the community.

As a child welfare worker, I've seen many families in rural communities struggle to access healthcare. Many barriers, such as transportation, financial struggles, and parents' work schedules, prevent children from receiving regular medical and behavioral health services.

Without consistent access to care, health concerns often go unnoticed until they become more serious.

A school-based health clinic can provide preventative care, health education, and mental health support by bringing health care directly to students during the school day. The partnerships this will create between schools, healthcare providers, and families are incredibly valuable. The barriers our communities face in healthcare deserve innovative solutions like this.

I want to commend the Washington County Commissioners and Fort Frye Local Schools for recognizing this need and working together to improve access to healthcare for our youth. I will continue to encourage residents to support resources like these for our communities.
