Letter to the Editor: How did we survive?

News flash!!!! It is summertime and it is going to be hot. Sometimes, very hot. Wow! I did not know that. The weather channels and local meteorologists act like we are all stupid. We know what hot is. We know to not be working hard outside in the middle of the day when temps are going to be high.

Unlike today's generation, we did not grow up with air conditioning in our homes all the time. We know what sweat is. We had to use window fans, play in the shade, get drinks of water from a garden hose, and we all seem to have survived. The first air conditioning at my parents' house was a window unit, which only cooled 1 room. It was so nice at least to go into that room and get cool. Yes, it is a whole lot better with air conditioning, but we coped when we did not have it.

We also did not always have A/C in our cars. Our cars had windows which we had to crank up or down. No electric windows. Wow! How did we survive?

I am sorry to say that perhaps generations of the past were tougher than those of today. Today most of the younger people just like to gripe and think they know it all when they have practically zero life experience. They have not been through hard times and do not know how to survive. A lot of them are on nerve medicine at a young age. They think they need medication to survive on a daily basis. Probably got this philosophy from their parents, who I bet are the same way. Very sad for our country.

The work ethic in America is very sad today. People do not want to work, and if they do, they want the same pay as someone who has done the job for 30 years. They gripe about everything. Some people do not know how to work.

The Pentagon building in our nation's capital was built during World War 2. It was finished in 16 months. Yes, 16 months. Today it would take 16 months to plan what to build. America is in sad shape today. It can get better, but people have to work. Problem is, they do not want to. Pray for America. Jesus is the answer.
