Monday, Nov. 6, the public works committee of the Parkersburg City Council, will meet to discuss the possible location of the new proposed events center.

After studying the "New City Recreation Center" report, I discovered that of the seven site attributes, the most important one was missing, and that was what economic benefit will this new center have for the community.

Each of the 7 attributes considered, were assigned points; if economic impact was considered, it would carry at least 5 points (the most for each of the 7 attributes). The Dils Center would have had an easy 5 points and the park would have 0 points.

Traffic impact and site access received 4 points. The park location was given 4 points (the most) and downtown Dils Center was given only 3 points? It is perfectly clear that the Dils Center is the better location for the traffic impact. The park should have received a lower point, if any.

It is also understood that the full funding for this project has not been accounted for. With the Dils Center location, the center will be in much demand and could be a source of substantial revenue which could possibly support a bond issue.

And we cannot forget that we have an underused 300-vehicle plus parking facility, which would be adjacent to the Dils location.

Regardless of final location. It will be a win-win for our city to have this events center. But, the downtown Dils site is the one that will provide us with the most economic gain for our city.
