Letter to the Editor: Leaders don鈥檛 understand common citizens

Just when you think you have heard it all, Biden comes up with a new one. He wants to ban all but the newest, most efficient air conditioners. Biden might be interested in knowing that most people who have had A/C installed in their home saved for years, worked extra jobs, took out a loan or some other way to pay for it. Now, once the unit has been installed, they want to make it last as long as possible. Biden would have them replace it, or better yet, not use it as much.
Last time I checked, the electric bill has my name on it and I pay the bill. A lot of people, me included, did not grow up with A/C in the home. I bought the first window unit, and then bought one for my brother who was recovering from surgery, and then one for my parents. What a difference those little 5000 btu units made in a hot house during a hot time of year. Yes, it is summer and it gets hot. The weather people and newscasters on TV think they have to tell us what to do to survive hot weather. They have no clue.
I remember growing up with the good, old, Sears window fan, which actually did a super job. Of course, I also remember that we got so used to the sound of it, when it came time to quit running it, we begged our parents to keep running it practically till November so we could sleep at night. We about froze with the windows open and the fan running, but we did get some sleep.
It appears more and more every day that those "servants" in D.C, are not really normal people. They have no idea what the average person has gone through in their life. We all cannot just go out and get a new A/C unit because the president thinks we need to get a more efficient one. We were happy to have a window unit in our bedrooms so we could get some sleep. Of course, it kind of trapped us in those rooms, but I do not recall anyone complaining. Seems like those in "power" have forgotten, or perhaps never knew, what it was like to grow up in average America during the '50s. We need new leaders who know Jesus.
