* What a wonderful resource we have, right here in the Mid-Ohio Valley, for those seeking to learn more about our history. When the Castle in Marietta hosts its All Ages History Camps, there is always something we can learn about what got us where we are today. In this era, that is essential. Those who attended a recent session got to learn about different facets of American history during and after World War II, from learning about the experiences of Japanese-Americans in internment camps to how to prepare meals while rationing. The sessions are so popular they bring people from far and wide to take part. But, of course, local folks get the benefit of such insight, too. "It's just good to learn," said Marietta resident Kimberly Johnson. Yes, it is. Thank goodness we have such valuable resources in our communities to do so.
* Mountaineers are spread all over the country -- and the world. The Flying WV has been spotted at the top of Mount Everest and even in space. But until Ohio resident Neil Armstrong got the ball rolling, it was not available on Buckeye State license plates. Armstrong is a Wheeling native who has lived in Ohio for decades. Thanks to his efforts, those Ohioans who still think fondly of their home among the hills at West Virginia University should soon be able to get the WVU Flying WV logo on their license plates by purchasing them through the Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles. "I have four kids and one actually went to WVU," Armstrong said. "But they all know that anytime I'm out and I'm wearing WV anything and I see somebody else with a flying WV on, they know they just lost 15 or 20 minutes of their day." Let's just hope that sort of thing doesn't start to happen in traffic; or that no one misinterprets when the person behind them yells "Let's go!"
