* Local elementary school students can look forward to exciting lessons now that a group of teachers has been trained on use of the Digital Star Lab, on loan from the NASA IV and V Education Resource Center at the Katherine Johnson Space Center in Fairmont. "It's exciting to see that there's a group of elementary teachers this large that is looking to improve their teaching practices and taking their time outside of the work day to come in and to get this training," said Josh Revels, an education outreach specialist at the ERC. "It really shows their dedication to their students and helping them get the same fun learning experience that I had when I was a student." Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction Cynthia Oxender says Jefferson Elementary Center was the first school in the area to be able to use the piece of equipment. "It's one thing to read in a book, but it's another thing to visually see this in a unique setting," Oxender said. "And we're hoping that this out of this box experience will provide students with fond memory of their education in Wood County Schools." What a wonderful opportunity for our teachers and students.
* Parkersburg Catholic High School teacher John Coe of Parkersburg, West Virginia Republican Party Chairman Matt Herridge of Williamstown and Washington County Commissioner James Booth of Lowell will be among those in Washington, D.C., today for President Donald Trump's inauguration. "I want to hear a message of unity for our country, and I want to hear a message about improving our economy, especially here in Appalachia and in West Virginia," said Coe, a 38-year member of the Wood County Republican Executive Committee. "I want to hear some talk about what he is going to do about inflation, all of the things he ran on." Many no doubt join him in that sentiment.
