John Murrock Winans, affectionately known as 鈥淢okie,鈥� passed away on July 16, 2026, at his home in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. He was born on February 5, 1964.
John graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1982 and earned his degree from West Virginia University in 1987. While at WVU, he was a proud member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, where he formed many lifelong friendships.
John is survived by his biological daughter, Carly Miller, brothers, Jim (Missy), Rich (Maria), David (Kim), Joe (Martha), and Bob; and his sister, Mary Dykhoff (Mark). He was preceded in death by his father, James F. Winans; his mother, Sarah Frances Winans; and his brothers, Sam and Tom.
In accordance with his wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date.
