MACFARLAN - The Ritchie County Sheriff's Department is looking into the circumstances of a mysterious death that occurred earlier this week.
On Monday, August 3, 2026, during the early morning hours, deputies responded to the Macfarlan area of Ritchie County, West Virginia, regarding a suspicious death, according to a press release from the department.
Deputies from the Ritchie County Sheriff鈥檚 Office, along with members of the West Virginia State Police, arrived on scene and immediately began an investigation.
"At this time, the cause of death remains undetermined, and the investigation is ongoing," the press release said.
The identity of the deceased has not been released.
The sheriff's department said further updates will be made when the information becomes available, according to the press release.
