The former Parkersburg Fire Station 3 at 13th and Liberty streets is torn down by an excavator Monday afternoon. It was the last of three Depression-era fire stations to be replaced by the city, with firefighters moving into the new station 3 in the 700 block of Briant Street in May. Mayor Tom Joyce said Monday that the now-vacant station has been broken into twice since then, “so in an effort to not be a property owner who lets vacant structures become a haven for bad actors” the city elected to demolish it sooner rather than later. No plans have been announced for any future use or potential sale of the property.
