Morgan County teacher facing charges over alleged abuse of six-year-old student

BERKELEY SPRINGS -- A teacher at Widmyer Elementary School is facing three felony charges of child abuse after she allegedly assaulted a 6-year-old student on multiple occasions.
According to a criminal complaint, 28-year-old Jazmyn Rohrer was reported by classroom aides who saw her assault the student. All of the incidents were allegedly recorded on both video and audio.
On the footage, Rohrer can allegedly be seen "placing the full weight of her upper body on the child's hands," until the child's hands turned purple and the child can be heard saying the teacher was hurting her.
In an interview that is described in the complaint, Rohrer allegedly admits to "inflicting pain" on the student, telling the officer that she knew it was wrong, blaming it on being overwhelmed and stressed.
A statement from Morgan County Schools says Rohrer was immediately removed from the classroom on Dec. 10 per state law. The statement says appropriate steps will be taken to address the issue, but personnel laws prevented them from being specific as to what the next steps are, as employees are entitled to due process.
"Rohrer is not in the classroom, and the West Virginia Department of Education has also been notified," the statement reads. "The West Virginia Department of Education will also take appropriate steps, such as immediately suspending Rohrer's teaching license."
Rohrer was arraigned in Morgan County and has pleaded not guilty. She has since been released on a $10,000 bond.
