PARKERSBURG -- The CDC is recommending masks be worn in indoor, public spaces in Pleasants and Roane counties due to recent COVID-19 statistics.
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issues its COVID Community Levels measure for counties each Thursday afternoon, based on the number of new COVID cases per 100,000 people and hospitalization statistics in the preceding seven days. The ratings go from low, in which up-to-date vaccination and testing when symptoms appear are recommended; to medium, where people at risk of severe illness are encouraged to talk to their health care providers about precautions; to high, where masks are recommended in indoor, public locations.
Roane was high last week and received that designation again this week. It was joined by Pleasants County, which had been medium the week before.
All other Mid-Ohio Valley counties in West Virginia, as well as Washington County in Ohio, were medium.
West Virginia did not release updated COVID statistics Friday because it was an observed state holiday for Christmas Eve.
