CHARLESTON -- COVID-19 hospitalizations held steady in West Virginia on Thursday.
According to the update from the state Department of Health and Human Resources, the number of patients with COVID-19 remained at 330, although the makeup changed slightly, with 185 classified as vaccinated. That includes those who received the first one or two shots, depending on the manufacturer, but does not take into account whether they also received recommended booster doses.
There were still 39 patients in intensive care units, although two more fell into the vaccinated category, with 30. There were five listed on ventilators, one less than Wednesday.
Six pediatric hospitalizations were confirmed, with one of them in ICU.
Active cases swung back up to 2,889 Thursday after being below 2,800 the previous day.
Active cases in local counties on Thursday (Wednesday) were: Calhoun, 8 (7); Doddridge, 11 (7); Gilmer, 13 (11); Jackson, 36 (22); Pleasants, 14 (14); Ritchie, 9 (8); Roane, 30 (20); Tyler, 9 (8); Wetzel, 18 (20); Wirt, 3 (3); Wood, 137 (132).
No deaths were reported Thursday, leaving the state's COVID fatalities since the start of the pandemic at 7,099.
On the five-level County Alert System map that measures the spread of the virus, 43 counties were yellow, the second-lowest category. That's based on the rate of new cases per 100,000 people in the last seven days or the percentage of positive tests, whichever is lower.
A dozen counties remained on the lowest level, green, including Jackson and Wirt locally. McDowell County was the only one classified as gold, the middle of the scale.
