CHARLESTON -- Active cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus have dropped to 508 as of Tuesday, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources said in its Tuesday morning pandemic update.
Tuesday's case count is 115 less than Monday. The state also reported 90 new cases were received since the last update on Monday.
In the region, only Wood County is in double digits on active cases, 25 as of Tuesday, according to the department statistics. Twenty-six active cases were listed in Wood County on Monday.
Active cases in counties in the region (previous day) are: Calhoun 2 (3), Doddridge 2 (3), Gilmer 0 (1), Jackson 5 (5), Pleasants 0 (1), Ritchie 4 (6), Roane 3 (4), Tyler 0 (1), Wetzel 6 (9), Wirt 0 (0).
Webster County is yellow on the County Alert System Map. All other counties are green, the lowest level on the map.
Another nine people have been added to the death count from the virus in the 24-hour period from Monday to Tuesday. Total number of deaths since the pandemic started is 6,660 residents.
The department has confirmed the deaths of a 90-year-old woman from Berkeley County, a 60-year-old woman from Berkeley County, a 91-year-old man from Putnam County, an 82-year-old man from Taylor County, a 63-year-old man from Kanawha County, a 58-year-old woman from Berkeley County, an 80-year-old woman from Kanawha County, a 90-year-old male from Raleigh County and a 89-year-old woman from Harrison County.
"Protecting the health and well-being of every West Virginian is our ultimate goal," department Secretary Bill J. Crouch said. "We must support our friends and neighbors to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by practicing safety measures such as vaccination and boosters."
The state reported 198 patients are in a hospital, 120 of those unvaccinated. Sixty patients are in an intensive care unit, 37 of those unvaccinated, and 35 are on a ventilator, 25 unvaccinated.
Two pediatric patients are in the hospital.
