McFriends/J Dollar Group reaches collection milestone

PARKERSBURG -- At their August meeting, the McFriends/J Dollar Group reached a milestone, having collected more than $250,000 since the late 1990s.
Total collections reached $250,360 at that time. The money raised was all given to the 10 churches where the nondenominational group's meetings are held.
The churches provide breakfast for the men, and the pastor speaks for 15 minutes. The men also conduct a business meeting during the hour-long session.
At each meeting, the men donate dollar bills with serial numbers beginning with the letter J, symbolizing Jesus, and provide other contributions for the host church to use for projects like mission work, church camps, food pantries and assistance to families in need.
Meetings are held at 9 a.m. on the third Wednesday of the month, except for January and February.
The next meeting will be Oct. 15 at Wayside United Methodist Church, 3001 Grand Central Ave., Vienna.
