PARKERSBURG -- The First United Methodist Church of Parkersburg will hold a free luncheon and program on estate planning at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7.

Presented as part of the church's new seniors ministry "Young at Heart," the program will be presented by Gerald Townsend, whose legal practice focuses on elder law and meeting the needs of seniors, with emphasis on protecting life savings from nursing home costs.

The presentation, entitled "Tiptoeing Through an Elder Lawyer's Workshop," will discuss last wills and testaments, trusts, statutory durable powers of attorney, combined medical powers of attorney/living wills, transfer on death deeds, the pros and cons of various ways of registering assets and bank accounts, and how to qualify for government financial help on nursing home expenses while saving one's home and life savings.

Reservations for the free luncheon and program are required and must be submitted no later than noon on Thursday, July 31, to ensure enough meals are prepared.

Reservations can be made by calling the church office at 304-428-0111 or sending an email with YAH RESERVATION in the subject line to fumcjuliana@wvdsl.net. Those making reservations are asked to include the names of all those attending in the party and contact information.
