First Lutheran begins 40 days of Lenten worship

PARKERSBURG -- First Lutheran Church at 1701 19th St. begins the season of Lent with Ash Wednesday services at noon and 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Both services will include the imposition of ashes "that remind us of our mortality and our sin," according to a release from the church. "It also reminds us of Jesus' defeat of death and sin on the cross and the atonement for our sin by His blood."
Lenten worship continues at noon and 7 p.m. each Wednesday, March 12 through April 9. Evening services will also be presented on Facebook LIVE.
According to the Rev. Ian B. Reid, senior pastor, the theme for this Lenten season's Wednesday sermons will be based on "The Body of Christ."
"As we make our way through the 40 days of Lent, we are reminded of Christ's 40 days in the wilderness and His defeat of temptation," Reid said.
All of these Lenten services are open to the public.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in these opportunities for spiritual renewal and Christian fellowship during this Lenten season, the release said.
