U.S. attorney reaches $4.17M civil settlement, compliance agreement with WVU Health System over controlled substance violations

MORGANTOWN — The U.S. Attorney’s Offices for the Northern and Southern districts of West Virginia announced Monday that West Virginia United Health System, doing business as West Virginia University Health System, has agreed to pay $4,177,139 and enter a memorandum of agreement to resolve civil allegations that it violated provisions of the Controlled Substances Act across various registered facilities over a seven-year span. MORGANTOWN – A recent study showed that West Virginia has the lowest monthly bills among the 50 states. That's good news – in a way. As Lauren Weatherford, a WVU Extension associate professor, pointed out, “You have to look at the data in context.
